Major System Practice Worksheet: 30 Number-to-Word Exercises
This Major System practice worksheet gives you 30 two-digit codes to turn into words, a checked answer key and three longer memory challenges. The Major System converts digits into consonant sounds, not letters: 3 is M, 2 is N, so 32 can become “moon.”
Before you start: the 0–9 sound key
| Number | Sound | Number | Sound |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | S, Z | 5 | L |
| 1 | T, D | 6 | CH, SH, J |
| 2 | N | 7 | K, hard G |
| 3 | M | 8 | F, V |
| 4 | R | 9 | P, B |
Vowels help make pronounceable words without adding digits. Silent letters generally do not count. The pronunciation matters: “knife” has N–F sounds and therefore encodes 28, even though it begins with the letter K.
Worksheet: encode these 30 numbers
Without looking at the key, write one vivid, unambiguous noun or image for each number. The examples are shuffled so you have to retrieve the sounds, not simply recite them in order.
| Set A | Set B | Set C |

| 1. 32 — ______ | 11. 14 — ______ | 21. 29 — ______ |

| 10. 81 — ______ | 20. 08 — ______ | 30. 90 — ______ |
Major System worksheet answer key
These are example answers, not the only valid ones. Say each word aloud and check that its pronounced consonants encode the intended digits.
| Number | Example image | Number | Example image |
|---|---|---|---|
| 32 | moon | 64 | chair |
| 71 | cat | 75 | coal |
| 94 | bear | 86 | fish |
| 05 | seal | 97 | book |
| 18 | dove | 08 | sofa |
| 23 | name | 29 | knob |
| 47 | rock | 11 | dad |
| 60 | cheese | 20 | nose |
| 09 | soap | 34 | mare |
| 81 | feet | 46 | roach |
| 14 | tire | 58 | leaf |
| 25 | nail | 62 | chain |
| 36 | match | 73 | comb |
| 42 | rain | 85 | file |
| 53 | lamb | 90 | bus |
Three longer challenges
- 327194: split it 32–71–94 → moon–cat–bear. Picture a cat riding the moon toward a bear.
- 051823: split it 05–18–23 → seal–dove–name. Picture a seal receiving a name tag from a dove.
- 476009: split it 47–60–09 → rock–cheese–soap. Picture a rock squeezing cheese into a bar of soap.
Cover the solutions, retrieve the images in order, and write the original digits. Try again later with a different memory palace to see whether recall lasts.
Five common worksheet mistakes
- Counting silent letters, such as K in “knife” or B in “lamb.”
- Accepting a word with an extra pronounced consonant.
- Using several unstable images for the same number before learning one reliably.
- Practicing number-to-word but never word-to-number.
- Chasing speed before achieving accurate recall.
